l drove a bmw z3 coupe 3.0 recently, and when l mashed the pedal, the power pushed me back in my seat. If anyone that has driven a g35 coupe or knows if this would happen please let me know. l would appreciate it. l loved the feeling of the power, and with my current car, l do not get the privledge of experiencing this. Thanks

l drove a 6MT G35, it has a good amount of power, and it will definitely put you in your seat. I've never driven a Z3, so l can not compare the two. You should go to a dealership and take one for a test drive.

*** The LONG Answer ***

The feeling of power or acceleration in a car is directly related to its total weight, horsepower, torque, & gearing. The obvious conclusion is that the more HP & torque a car has, & the less it weighs, the more of an acceleration rush u will feel. However the type of transmission (auto vs. manual) & its gearing also play a factor. A car without a lot of power can be geared to feel fast, & a car with a lot of power can be geared to feel slow.

With that said, a 2002 BMW Z3 3.0i Coupe weighs approximately 2943 lbs., has 225hp & 214 ft-lbs. of torque. A 2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe weighs approximately 3435 lbs., has 280hp & 270 ft-lbs of torque. So while the G35 has more power, it also weighs almost 500 lbs more.

The Z3 comes with a 5 speed transmission, while the G35 comes with a 6 speed. The final gear ratios on both cars r probably pretty similar (so that they both feel comfortable & get good gas mileage at highway speeds) but the Z3 has 1 less gear to get to that ratio, meaning its gears r 'taller' & may feel slower. These assumptions r for manual transmissions only. Automatic transmissions sometimes feel like they accelerate faster at slower speeds, because their 1st & 2nd gears can be engineered to be 'shorter' & feel faster, but later on the gears get much taller. It is not fair to compare two different cars when one has an auto & the other has a manual.

There r other smaller factors that affect how a car feel when it accelerates, such as the weight of the wheels & tires (lighter wheels & tires will allow a car to accelerate faster) & what RPM an engine makes maximum torque or horsepower (for example: Honda engines tend to make power higher in RPMs, so it takes a few seconds for it to rev up before u get pushed back in ur seat. Nissan engines, especially the one in the G35 Coupe/350Z tend to make maxium torque lower in the RPMs but 'run out of breath' faster.so the initial acceleration is great, but it drops off when the RPMs get higher). These two things factor in to the feeling, but r overshadowed by total engine output, weight, & gear ratios.

*** The SHORT Answer ***

The G35 Coupe has a lot of power & the feeling of getting pushed back in ur seat is pretty significant (probably just as good or better than the Z3).but it is heavier & not as nimble as the BMW. It all comes down to subjective personal preference & back to back test drives should be taken in both cars (if possible) before a final purchasing decision is made.
