l just purchased a 2001 Infiniti l 30t (touring pkg. l guess) . . .it rolled off the lot Feb. 2002 and the same owner had it for 4 years. It was passed around to a couple of pre-owned dealers for another year, and now it’s on my driveway!!! Right now it has 81,000 mi. is it ok to use regular gas (as supposed to premium or ultra) and use engine treatment once every 2000-3000 miles to clean up the gunk and dirt? Also are there any problems l should look out for? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You should use the premium. If l rember right that car is a high comprsion moter. If you use the cheap stuff it will knock an mess up the pistons

As with all modern engines, it has a knock sensor that adjusts the engine timing according to the gas you are using.

Go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov to find Consumer Complaints, Defect Investigations, Recalls, and Technical Service Bulletins for an 01 I30.

you would be better served to use the super unleaded in that vehicle. l was told that it was okay to use the cheaper gas in my wife is 2000 qx4 and it was a mistake. l also own a 1993.5 g-20 that l just gave to my daughter. they are very good cars but you must keep up with the scheduled maintenance for optimum performance.

Any Infiniti deserves premium gas and nothing less. We use premium for my G35. My parents even use premium for their Nissan Xterra.

man it can run just fine on 87 octane .infiniti is guilty of badge switching the I30 is the exact same as a maxima vq30de bullet proof motor and your ok with 87 octane..as far as problem the most common failure is mass air flow sensors and the should be repaired at a dealership due to ecu software might need to be updated..and it also is a catalytic converter killer code p0420/0430 which also is a condition that could require a ecu software update and part replacement ..
