All Infiniti ''I'' models r upgraded models of the Nissan Maxima platform. They came with a higher level of standard equipment & the longer Infiniti warranty. As Maximas r considered ''bullet-proof'' cars, so r the l 30 & l 35 models. If u can afford the l 30 over the Maxima, u will get a nicer vehicle. Also, Infiniti models usually r tuned to give u 5-10 hp more than the equivalent Nissan, so u get a bit more performance. As far as l can recall, u can only get an Infiniti with an automatic transmission. You would need to get a Maxima if u want a manual trans. & max. performance. Finally, check with ur insurance agent to see if there is much premium difference. Hope this helps.

Since the I30 is no longer in production, replaced by I35 which has been replaced by the M serie, so u talking of a used one.
l had a I35 for 4yrs (leases) & got a M35 to replace it.
Which means this car is one of the most reliable car in US & excellent value as a used car.
Make sure this car was not in any kind of accident, which in turn may become a major problem with non-Nissan parts.

Second most reliable Infiniti next to the 91-93 G20. The I30 VQ30 motor won Ward`s auto world most reliable next to a BMW motor in Europe. With the I30 the struts will wear at about 70k and the starter at about 100k. Try to buy a I30 that had the radio unit replaced already and sometimes ignition coils will fail. 98` to 99`1/2 are the best years. 2000 and 2001 are good to.
