Ive been reading reviews on the internet and see that the brakes constantly have to be changed. Is it normal for the brakes to be changed every 30K or so?l wanna buy a used 2003 G35 coupe. Is this a bad idea.

it a good car - has one if not the best rated engines for the pass 13 years . but the break do wear very fast on it . the car is also pretty bad in the snow.Besides that, it one of the best touring coupe you can buy - new or used.

Because every Luxury car driver is anal about a little brake squeal, Infiniti makes softer brake pads & the rotors r prone to wear also. I've seen front pads last up to 45,000 miles, but also as early as 27,000 miles. It depends on driving styles & highway miles.
It is a great car in the summer, rear wheel drive is not very much fun in the winter. I'd store any sports car in the snowy winter weather just to keep the salt off & make the vehicle last longer.
The G35 has a very reliable power train no matter if u go stick or automatic.
Just do not try to save money with after market brake pads, l just did a brake job on a customers G35X that had brake squeal & the after market pads l took off the car were pretty much full thickness.
I've had great luck with Advance Autos' rotors made in China & l would recommend them to everyone, just buy stock brake pads & hardware.
If u do not buy the Infiniti go drive a new Mitsubishi Eclipse or EVO. Now there is a couple of cars that make driving a sport!

30,000? For an Infiniti that is exceptional.
l had an early G35 sedan. Ate front brakes at 9,000 miles, again at 20, this time along with rotors. Had to argue with regional office but had them covered under warranty. Luckily the car was leased, so did not have to live with it much longer. Otherwise a pretty good car, although not as agile as l prefer.

ok.. l own a 2003 g coupe.. the non brembo package..it doesnt cost u 400 dollars for the brakes..it cost me 120$ for the rear rotors & pads. my front ones a little more.. but yes, the brakes wear out a little quicker than what u would want it to be.

but that isnt such a big deal.

if u do get the 03, & it has more than 60k, get the extended warranty..trust me on this one.ur window motors will go bad pretty soon & its better to pay a 100 deductible than to pay 300 for everything.

The brakes on the G35 r fine. Exceptional even. According to some magazine reports, the 2003 G35 with the Brembo brake package stopped from 60 in 112 feet. That distance is approaching supercar stopping power.

Infiniti did change the brakes after 2005, because of customer complaints. The updated rotors r larger, & having more swept surface makes them last a little longer. The 2005 brakes r not better though. Infinity simply made them more acceptable to the luxury buyer.

My guess is that the luxury car buyer will change the brakes at the first hint of squeal. The typical luxury car buyer will also pay a shop to do this, hence the $400 bill. If u do not mind changing brake pads about twice as often as a normal car, do not worry about it. It is a fair tradeoff for exceptional brakes.

are these the stock brakes or the BREMBO's??

Cuz the Brembo is should hold up pretty well.

It depends on the driver. The G35 is a very fast car & it has a ton of low end torque so it will get up to 80 MPH real quick. If you're doing that in between lights & then slamming on them it is not a good thing, just like any other car. It would have been smart for Infiniti to do some sort of either cross drilled or slotted rotors but they didn't. The car does have a little to much power for those breaks but if u take it easy & do not slam on them u will be fine. Or u can get a front set of cross drilled slotted rotors with some upgraded pads & that will give u some more life.
